There are many talented graphic designers out there who would like to do some web work–but that means learning a whole new language . . . the language of web programming. Or does it?
I have just learned of a service that converts Photoshop files (PSD) into CSS-driven HTML files–no coding needed. It’s called PSD2CSS.
I did some poking around on the site, and it looks like it’s legit. The site offers video demos and tutorials along with helpful hints about how to make the most of all the service has to offer.
And best of all, it’s FREE.
Viven los robots!
Here’s what the site says about psd2css:
“psd2css Online is Software as a Service that converts your fantastic, creative, artistic, no holds barred web page designs into dynamic HTML and CSS web pages automatically. Use Photoshop or The Gimp to express yourself and create the most professional, aesthetically perfect, dynamic and functional designs you can think of. CSS stands or Cascading Style Sheets and is technically the best way to build your web pages.”
So if you’re a pro with Photoshop, but can’t or don’t have the desire to figure out how to code websites, your train just pulled in. Toot, toot!

Photoshop comes with a built-in application called ImageReady, and I’m pretty sure ImageReady converts Photoshop files as well with a “save as web page” function. I know it does this for HTML and I believe it includes CSS as well. You can also define buttons and links. It’s super easy, though I haven’t used that in a couple of years since I switched to WordPress.

@Melissa:
Thanks for the insight. And, yes, I think the world has switched to WordPress. Yeah!
Thanks for reading and commenting!

Hi -
What psd2css Online does that ImageReady doesn’t are these: We use the layers in photoshop to make CSS layers – there is no ’slicing’. We also ‘read’ the layer names to take instruction about special code to generate. For example you can get image galleries, menus, working forms, social networking feeds and more just by how you name the layers in the photoshop file. Last week we added automatic Drupal Theme generation too – and WordPress themes are coming!
Thanks

@Shaun:
Thanks for weighing in on some of the differences of PSD2CSS.
And, by the way, you’re welcome for the coverage of your service.

Lena…nice find!!
If this really works than you just saved me thousands of dollars and countless man hours. we typically have to pay for someone to take our designs and “slice” them up because our designer is not good with CSS. i am going to send this on to her and see how the code comes out.
@shaun
looking forward to wordpress themes! any idea on when this will be available?
thanks,
ben

Thanks, Ben!
Yes, it actually works. It’s a total time-saver. I’m glad you think it’ll be helpful for you and your team.

@Ben
No firm date yet. Working the kinks out of the Drupal Theme support first. WordPress should be within the next couple weeks. Thanks!
@Lena
Thanks again for the great words!
